Do you have any real literature?????
Long Way Gone -- I just finished that last night.
The Time Traveler's Wife is good, though still not real literature.
I've read every book Joan Didion has ever written, and almost every book her husband, John Gregory Dunne ever wrote, except the ones that are out of print.
I can't stand Margaret Atwood, but I've still read almost all of them.
Ayn Rand? Classic must-reads.
Annie Proulx? The Shipping News is her best one, though I've read them all.
Sarah Waters? If you can take suspense, intensity, twists, etc., these are very well done. You have to read each one several times.
Ian McEwon
Jane Smiley
John Irving
Then you have all of the classics:
Henry James
Jane Austen
Sylvia Plath
Virginia Woolf
William Faulkner
Then you have my whole other list, that I'm sure none of you are interested in!

But you are an English Major remember. I am just a BS. I do have "the scarlet letter", pride and prjudice, tess of the d'urbervilles, and jane eyre. I have an Emily Dickenson book too and a few others my big sister left layin around when she moved out of the house. :) Why do you read books by an author you can't stand. That seems like a serious waste of time to me. Probably worse than reading that stuff they call romance novels. I have more books on or by Native Americans than both Barnes and Nobles and Borders have put together. I know that is not liturature but it is good knowledge.

Ugh....I hated jane eyre....or however that was spelled. I can't get past the first few pages of Tale of Two Cities. Some of the classics take too much concentration for me. Maybe at a calmer point in my life.
Hmmm....Sarah Waters....I am realy into suspense and things right now. Do you like James Patterson. My aunt really liked him.
